About this workshop
The best managers do more than manage performance—they develop the people responsible for achieving it.
Many managers move into leadership roles because they were successful individual contributors, without having had the opportunity to develop practical coaching skills. As a result, managers can spend much of their time monitoring metrics, solving problems and directing work rather than developing the capability of their people.
The Manager as Coach Workshop equips managers with practical coaching skills they can use during everyday interactions to support growth, accountability, engagement and performance.
The emphasis is not on adding more meetings or lengthy coaching sessions. It is on recognising and using the moments that already occur during one-on-ones, project discussions, performance conversations, difficult conversations and everyday interactions.
What you will learn
During the workshop, you will learn how to:
- Ask better questions.
- Listen to understand.
- Build trust.
- Provide meaningful feedback.
- Navigate difficult conversations.
- Inspire ownership instead of dependence.
- Motivate others to reach their highest potential.
You will also explore how effective coaching can help people think critically, solve problems, learn continuously and take greater responsibility for their work and results.
How you will learn
The workshop focuses on the practical application of coaching skills in situations managers encounter in their everyday work.
Through explanation, discussion and practical application, participants explore how coaching behaviours can be incorporated into management conversations rather than treated as a separate management activity.
The emphasis throughout is on developing skills that participants can begin applying immediately with their teams.
Who should attend
This workshop is designed for managers and leaders responsible for developing people and team performance.
It is particularly relevant for managers who:
- Have developed strong technical, professional or operational expertise but have had limited formal development in coaching others.
- Want to move from primarily directing and solving problems towards developing greater capability and ownership within their teams.
- Work with teams where knowledge sharing, collaboration, continuous learning and customer success are important to performance.
- Want practical coaching techniques they can incorporate into their existing management responsibilities.
